Morning or Evening star

Image
MORNING OR EVENING STAR Have you ever seen the bright star shining during sunset? Image from space.com Venus planet is the morning or evening star which we can see with our naked eye. The bright shining star seen during sunset is the venus planet. Its position is either west or east. Its temperature is 460 °C as it is closer to sun. It's atmosphere is made of carbondioxide and hence have powerful Greenhouse effect. Volcanic eruptions had occured 800million years ago. It is covered with lava. Image from Planetary society

WALKING TREE

Image
Have you ever heard of WALKING TREE?   Socratea exorrhiza , is a kind of palm tree.  It is found in rainforests of tropical Central and South America.  It is about 15–20 m tall and 12 cm in diameter palm tree has 2m stilt roots which appear as legs. It walks to pursue Light. But how is it possible?  It develops new stilts in the direction of light while other roots die off. Thus it moves in the desired direction. These trees take single step in three months.

Separation of semi permeable membrane from an Egg

Image
How to separate semi permeable membrane from an Egg?     The materials required for this process are Raw egg, Concentrated Hydrochloric acid, Glass Beaker, Glass rod, Gloves  PROCEDURE : Take a beaker and pour Conc.Hcl in a quantity that the whole egg should sink. We can dilute Hcl to some extent by adding water to it. Put the egg into the beaker so that full egg should sink into it. Keep it for 4 hours. During this time the shell slowly disintegrates into the solution. After 4 hours we can take it out. Pinch the membrane and drain all the contents of it. This is called semi permeable membrane and we can use this to study osmosis process.

Do fish need to drink water?

Do Fish drink water????   The answer is Yes and NO . But how?? Here we have to consider both Freshwater fish and salt water fish In case of Freshwater fish:   Freshwater fish is surrounded by water having low concentration when compared to its body. As a result, water is drawn into its body through the process of Osmosis.           (Definition of Osmosis: The process of movement of solvent from low concentration                          to high concentration through a semi permeable membrane is called osmosis)                       Semi permeabe membrane allows only certain substances to pass through. For                        example if you want to separate this membrane you can do it with Egg.       3.  Now if the fish does...

Interesting facts

Quick Look on some interesting Facts 1.   Agave ocahui plant flowers once in 100 years. 2.   Octopuses have three hearts, nine  brains and blue blood. 3.   Fugu is the powerful poisonous fish. Exciting things to know

Q. Why we don't feel any motion of the earth even though it is spinning? Answer          Yes, we don't feel any motion even though we are on the spinning earth. It can be explained by taking a very simple example. Do you feel any motion when you are in any moving object? Imagine that you are in a  moving car. The car is moving at a constant speed. You don't feel any motion until you look outside. You are at rest according to the object but to the observer outside the car who is watching, you are in motion.   Q. What happens if the earth stops rotating? Answer   Some people may think that half side of the earth will be having sunlight and the other half will be dark which is not true. Suddenly if the earth stops rotating everything on the earth will be thrown at a speed of earth like what happens if  a fast moving car suddenly stops. Even though we are not in motion we also possesses same inertia of motion. s...

TEN INTERESTING FACTS

Ten interesting facts We see colours when we close our eyes because of phosphenes. These are the result of the neurological activity. Biologically produced light particles in our eyes cause such colours and patterns.                                                                                                                             Chameleons can change their colours due to the presence of chromatophores beneath their transparent skin. They maintain their body temperature by changing colours.                Cyanobacteria is the fist photosynthetic living organism on earth.                ...

PLANETS

PLANETS    Planets are the large celestial bodies which orbits around the sun. They acquire round shape to maintain equilibrium. They not produce light on their own. They are usually made of rocks containing metals and minerals.     Our solar system comprises of sun and eight planets. Terrestrial Planets :   Earth. Mercury. Venus. Mars. Gas Giants              :   Jupiter. Saturn. Uranus. Neptune. Dwarf Planets         :  Ceres. Pluto. Haumea. Makemake. Eris. INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION proposed the three criteria that should be followed for a planet are: It is in orbit around the Sun. It has sufficient mass to assume hydrostatic equilibrium (a nearly round shape). It has “cleared the neighborhood” around its orbit.                     Planets are revolving around the sun due to sun's gravity towards the planets. When there is su...
